In terms of electronic controlled mechanical automatic transmissions, relevant departments in China are also conducting research. The research on AMT technology in China started relatively late and was listed as a science and technology research project during the Ninth Five Year Plan period. At present, Jilin University of Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shenzhen Xinyuansheng Industrial Co., Ltd., Harbin Emte Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd., Chongqing Dongfang Ouxiang Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd. are conducting research in this area. The domestic research and development level is basically in the stage of fully automatic AMT development, and there is still a considerable gap compared to foreign countries, but the theoretical research and international level are comparable.

Jilin University of Technology has conducted extensive research on AMT theory, proposing theories such as 2-parameter optimal shift law, dynamic 3-parameter shift law, optimal synchronous shift law, dynamic closed-loop shift control, clutch fuzzy start control, etc., and has conducted vehicle experiments on different vehicle models such as light vehicles, heavy vehicles, and sedans. Beijing Institute of Technology's research on AMT mainly focuses on heavy-duty vehicles. The AMT product of a certain armored vehicle developed by the university has undergone a 3000km certification test and passed the product design certification. This product adopts an electronically controlled hydraulic actuator, which can fully perform automatic gear shifting operations or manually shift gears by operating the gear lever. The product also has gear holding and self-learning functions. The original control mechanism of the car is still retained, and manual operation can be performed in case of a malfunction in the electronic control system. Shenzhen Xinyuansheng Industrial Co., Ltd. has implemented AMT automatic gear shifting on sedans, with a common electric motor as the actuator. Three motors are used to operate the throttle, clutch, gear selection, and gear shifting respectively. Through the design of the transmission mechanism, the gear selection and shifting operations can be completed with only one motor. The clutch driving mechanism adopts a labor-saving device, reducing the power of the driving motor. At present, some models such as Chery QQ have been equipped with AMT automatic transmission.
